PECO Energy customers who would like information
on how to shop and compare prices for an electric supplier on
an "apples-to-apples" basis will receive some valuable
assistance in their next PECO Energy bill. All PECO Energy customers
will receive an Electric Choice and Price to Compare guide from
the Pennsylvania Office of Consumer Advocate(OCA) as an insert
with their October bill. The guide includes background information
on shopping and a list of licensed electric suppliers and their
prices for PECO residential customers. There is comparison price
information for regular residential and residential heating customers
that shows how much PECO Energy customers would pay to each supplier
for generation and transmission service at two different usage
levels.
The Pennsylvania Electric Choice Program
allows consumers to choose the company that provides the generation
and transmission portion of their electric service. The cost
for generation and transmission make up the customer's Price
to Compare. PECO Energy customers with questions can call the
OCA toll free at 1-800-684-6560 or PECO Energy's Consumer Choice
Education Center at 1-800-980-9655.
The Office of Consumer Advocate (OCA) is
a state agency that represents the interests of Pennsylvania
utility customers before the Pennsylvania Public Utility Commission
(PUC), federal regulatory agencies, and state and federal courts.
The OCA was created by the Pennsylvania General Assembly in 1976
and is an independent office within the Office of Attorney General.
PECO Energy Company owns and/or operates
9,261 megawatts of electric generating capacity with a diverse
generating portfolio consisting of nuclear, hydro, coal, oil,
natural gas and landfill gas. The utility supplies electric service
to 1.5 million and natural gas to 420,000 customers across southeastern
Pennsylvania and sells wholesale power in 47 states and Canada
through its power marketing organization, Power Team.
